OUR COMMITMENT TO HEALTH & SAFETY

At JEI, safety is a value. The environmental service industry is dynamic by nature and fraught with the potential for accidents and injuries. The safety of our employees starts with dedication and hard work. JEI employs a professional Health & Safety Manager to work full time on the health and safety aspects of our daily operations. This allows us to commit the fullest attention to any safety hazards or concerns that may occur. All JEI employees have the right and the responsibility to stop any job that is deemed unsafe, whether it be a condition or behavior.

In addition to the standards set by OSHA, JEI maintains Safety & Health programs, policies and procedures to address any foreseeable issues that may arise. The content of these written programs & plans are the foundation of our Accident Prevention Program. Along with extensive training and commitment to employee safety ensure that we provide the safest possible service to our customers.

JEI performs employee training both internally and externally. Our employees receive more than 80 hours of skilled training within their first six months of employment and more than 20 hours of skilled refresher training on a yearly basis. JEI also has an onsite 6000 gallon training tank for confined space training and confined space rescue training. We utilize this tank to educate our new employees on the importance of safe procedures and safety in real-life situations such as high pressure water blasting, tube cleaning and shot gun applications. In addition to regulatory training requirements we include 40 hour HAZWOPER as well as first aid, CPR & AED training for all of our employees.

JEI has developed industry and customer specific training programs and development initiatives that focus on working safely within specific site regulations. We also respect and follow each individual customer’s safety policies. Every JEI project manager and field supervisor is committed to ensuring that our client’s safety policies are upheld by our personnel, however, if our own safety policy is more stringent, it will take precedence.

Since JEI opened for business in 1999, we worked nine consecutive years without an OSHA recordable injury. As the business grew in 2009 we experienced our first recordable injuries. We attributed the injuries to a large jump in hours worked and a high number of new employees joining the JEI Team in 2009. In 2010 we took a new approach to safety. We changed and created policies and procedures. Job hazard/safety analysis was conducted for our most frequent job tasks and from the analysis we created JSA's. We created a new training program and mentoring for new employees and employee involvement in our safety program was the key. We have completed 2010 & 2011 without an OSHA recordable injury and our success is greatly contributed to Employee involvement and Management support. Our last OSHA recordable injury was December 18, 2009.

All JEI employees must pass an initial drug test and are then subject to random testing. We adhere strictly to a zero-tolerance drug & alcohol policy.
